How the Petition Process Works
Courts can adopt STRAP JSP through:

  • Direct partnership agreement

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

  • A referral pipeline through probation

  • Parent/guardian petition

Step 1 — Download the Petition Letter

A pre-written letter explaining:

  • What STRAP JSP is

  • Why it benefits the child

  • Why courts approve it as an alternative

Start with the template and personalize as needed.

 

Step 2 — Submit the Letter to the Judge or

Probation Officer

Options include:

  • Upload to court portal

  • Email to probation

  • Provide copy to defense attorney

  • Bring to the next hearing

Step 3 — Court Reviews STRAP Materials

The judge or probation officer will review the:

  • JSP Court Brief

  • Program Summary

  • MOU options

  • Contact information

 

Step 4 — Court Approves or Requests More Information

Courts may:

  • Approve the youth for JSP

  • Request more documentation

  • Ask for a case staffing

  • Meet with STRAP leadership

 

Step 5 — Youth Begins JSP Program

Once approved:

  • STRAP completes intake

  • Weekly reports begin

  • Court receives regular updates

  • Final exit summary provided at completion
